English 30.08.2010
According to net run rate Austria were the overall winners, with
Belgium second and Hungary third, but everybody agreed to call it a
tie! In the first match Belgium Austria score to set them up for the day. Some amazing hitting and running from Agnes and Fanni from Bekescsaba then helped Hungary overwhelm Belgium 2, before Austria got back on track with an easy win over Serbia. After the Belgian derby, Serbia beat Hungary (with Hungarian Brigi Hotea taking 2 wickets while playing for Serbia!) and Austria thrashed Belgium 2 (with Jani taking 3 wickets and hitting 23 not out; Yasmin also retired on 23). With four matches to go, Belgium 1 were hot favourites to win the day and they managed it in style, beating an under-strength Hungary and the tired Serbia to finish the day unbeaten. The Serbia team had already lost to Belgium 2 because of some very tight bowling, so that left Hungary and Austria to play the last match knowing it was a straight battle for 2nd or 3rd place. Despite batting well, Hungary lost their heads when bowling, with the extras gifting the win and thus the runners-up spot to the visitors. Poppy and Danielle were in great form with the bat all day for Belgium 1, hitting 135 points between them. Yasmin hit 56 in just three matches (including consecutive sixes) and Jelena got 39 points for Serbia. Jani came good with the ball after a slow start, pipping Brigi to the most wickets title. Agnes took 4 for Hungary (3 of them caught by Fanni, the joint leading catcher).
All in all a
fantastic day of non-stop cricket, 10 matches in 5 hours with
coaching in the corridor outside. Just what the coaches ordered for
the players to be ready for After lots of warm-ups, fielding drills and bowling practice, the first match got underway at just after 12. The Flicx pitch was set, but were the players? Belgium put Hungary into bat and squeezed them with some tight bowling from Francesca and Danielle to restrict the total after 6 overs to 23-1. That increased to 49-1 after 10 overs, with Nora and Claudia starting to run, then Brigi replaced the retired Nora (14) to help double the score from the last 5 overs. She remained unbeaten on 12, Claudia hit 22 not out. Half of the 98-1 total came from extras, many thanks to aggressive Hungarian running. In contrast to the Hungarian innings, Belgium got off to a flyer, with Poppy and Sue dominating the bowling. Sue was dropped once, helping her stay at the crease to hit 7 boundaries. When she was caught by Brigi for 40 in the 10th over, the target was already in sight and Danielle assisted Poppy over the line with 3 overs to spare. All the bowlers leaked boundaries, but Niki's debut performance with the ball was impressive. With victory came the chance to recover and freshen up, leaving Hungary to regroup quickly to play again. Three countries combined to form the Austria/Germany/Serbia team, with Jani captaining. Hungary batted first and again got off to a slow but steady start. The run-rate hovered around 5 for the whole innings, with the runs mainly coming from extras (51 in total, although many were due to the aggressive running tactices). Nora and Mirtyll put on 21 for the first wicket, Nora and Claudia combined for a 34-run partnership, but then three quick wickets fell to leave the team in trouble. Zsuzsa then reached double figures, but her 11 was the top score in a disappointing batting display to end on 79-5. Lubina took 3-13 and Jo-An only conceded 5 runs from three overs, so their team was confident during the innings break. Twelve runs off the first over got them off to a strong start, but after Brigi bowled Georgina and Nigina in the fifth over, the run-rate was always lower than Hungary's. Three of the team's best batswomen were then run out, meaning Hungary only had to control the extras to win. Claudia bowled the final over, with Austria needing 9 to win, but they couldn't do it and Hungary had the victory. Brigi's 3-5 off three overs was fantastic and Niki impressed again with just 13 coming off her 3 overs. Despite some basic fielding errors, the team gelled together to pull off the win. The final match of the weekend saw Belgium bat first, but this time Poppy and Danielle both failed with the bat to leave them in disarray at 16-4 off 5 overs. Sue came to the rescue with three boundaries in her 20, but the remaining six batswomen all failed to score, meaning that they only reached 70-9 off their 15 overs. Jani took 3-4 off her three overs thanks to some expert bowling and greater accuracy than in the first match (in the two matches, she only conceded three singles from the bat). Austria/Germany/Serbia might have given away 45 extras, but again they were confident while they drank. This time, there was no mistake. Jani took control with a masterful 22 and her team chased down the target in just 11.5 overs. Francesca bowled well again to take 2-4 off her 3 overs, but the target was too low to defend. So, each team won once on Sunday. According to net run rate Austria were the overall winners, with Belgium second and Hungary third, but everybody agreed to call it a tie! Thanks to sponsors Anita Hungaria (distributors of sports, pregnancy and care lingerie and swimwear) and Comenius School, each player received a medal and an Anita goodie bag, with the best players receiving cups and other players receiving mugs and certificates for their contributions to a wonderful weekend of cricket. Next year Belgium have promised to hold a similar event and the Austrians also said they would - so, next year Europe's female cricketers will have lots of travelling to do!

24.04.2010 Cricket: Friendly match 40 Overs
On the 24th of April we played our 2nd friendly match of the season.
We played with lots of youngsters and some experienced players as
well. The toss was won by the opposition and they decided to bat
first. The was some remarkable difference in our fielding. The
bowling was led by Aman and Imran first up and it was backed up with
some tight bowling from Waqar and Christoph, who took one wicket
each. Then the spinners came in and took some crucial wickets. We
got them all out for 154 runs. The batting was opened by Armaan and
Aman, the captain. They laid the platform for the batsmen to come
with a solid partnership and we sneaked home with 2 wickets. |

Report from Udara (Srilankan Cricket Club Youth
Academy) Our trip started on Friday. The trip was really marvellous. We even had fun in the bus. On Saturday morning at 6 o’clock we had to stand up to get ready for the match. When I saw the hall I was impressed. I’ve never seen a hall as big as this hall. We played against many Swiss teams and against Tegernsee. True, we have lost all matches but we earned lots of experience. At the beginning we played not so good but at the end we got better. We had great fun. After the match, when we stayed at the hotel, we were able to play Ping Pong, Table Football and even One Bump (One Tip). We never went to bed before midnight. And now something to Jayatilika Uncle. He was amazing. He wasn’t too strict. He let us area to be left clear. This is how a babysitter should be. Thanks for the ACC organising comity. Thanks for the SLCC Club for giving us the babysitter. At last we want to thank Siva Uncle for this trip. He really helped us, even during the match. My bowling was bad. He came and showed me how to do it and everything went clear. But he did not only help especially me, he helped everyone. We thank Siva Uncle for inviting us to the trip. Regards Udara Hettiarachchi |

15.02.2010Brett just got out of intensive care. The doctors are very satisfied with the healing process.Dear Brett, We would like to say, from the cricket club as a whole, that we all hope you get well soon. We can’t wait to see you well-recovered and with us again. You have been a huge gain for the club, no doubt as you are for all your other endeavours. Through your remarkable effort, your cordial commitment, you have brought such positive life, such a spirited atmosphere to the club. We are truly grateful for your contribution, both in the huge move forwards that you have brought in cricket, and the wonderful new dimension you have given us with rugby. It is by no means easy to inspire such significant and positive changes in the club, and in so many different ways, but such has been the extent of your dedication and resolve that you have done so much for us all. So as an inspiring cricketer, a great rugby-player, but most importantly as a dear friend and a loved member of the family that is our club, we would all like to say how much we appreciate everything you’ve done. We truly value you. Please pass on our sincere gratitude and greetings to Judith and your Mom as well. We hope to see you both again very soon! Wishing you a speedy recovery, Your Team-AUSTRIAN CRICKETCLUB |

01.02.2010 Our A-Team visited Graz for the first tour of 2010. The indoor tournament took place from the 30th to the 31st of January 2010. Our team was boosted by the arrival of Satyam Subhash and Lakmal Kasturiarachchige from England. After a two and a half hour drive, we arrived straight at the gym. Our first match was against Steyr CC. The opposition wasn’t very strong. ACC had an easy game. Our team scored 166 runs with Amandeep Chhabra, Imran Asif and Imran Goraya scoring 25 runs. The next match was played against AVL-Graz Cricket Club. Graz was stronger than Steyr CC, but it was still not enough to beat us. Our team showed some exceptional fielding, batting and bowling. ACC remained undefeated at the end of the first day, thereby qualifying for the semi-finals. The second day started with a match against Pakistan Cricket Club. PCC were the favourites, but we gave our best and clinched the game. We got PCC out for 98 runs, with some fiery bowling from Satyam, Lakmal, Imran A. and Imran G. The brilliant bowling and fielding display was backed up with some great batting. The semi-finals were going be very tight. The first semi-final was played between Lords Cricket Club and AVL-Graz Cricket Club, which was easily won by LCC. The next match was ours. We played Vienna Cricket Club, which was captained by Benji Loader. VCC won the toss and elected to bat first. VCC started off really well with their openers getting 25. We restricted VCC to a chaseable target with some tight bowling from our captain Shivam. Our batting didn´t disappoint us and we chased the target with two overs to spare. The final was going to be played between ACC and LCC. LCC was playing with Rajeev Sharma, Maninder Bharti, Sahil Bharti, Sukhvir Hira, Wasif Mohammed and Nandeep Soggi. ACC was playing with Shivam Subhash, Imran Asif, Imran Goraya, Amandeep Chhabra, Satyam Subhash and Lakmal Kasturiarachchige. ACC won the toss and elected to bat. The openers were Aman and Lakmal. The match started with a brilliant piece of fielding by Sahil to run out Lakmal. This was a big loss for us. Imran A. came in and consolidated. Aman got to 25 runs and retired. Our captain walked in and gave the innings the impetus it needed before getting run out. Imran G. and Satyam also chipped in with useful cameos. ACC set LCC a target of 126 runs. LCC´s openers were Mani and Nandeep. They gave them a good start and at the end of the fifth over, they had scored 68 runs. The equation was in LCC´s favour. But some good bowling gave ACC a whisker of a chance. The equation came down to 9 runs needed of 6 balls. Shivam bowled the last over. The first ball went for three runs, the second was a dot. The third and fourth ball went for three each. LCC won the final with two balls to spare. Imran Asif was named best batsman and Imran Goraya was named best bowler. Lakmal and Imran A. also won man of the match awards. All in all it was a great weekend for our youth. Armaan Randhawa |
LCC spielte mit Rajeev Sharma, Maninder Bharti, Sahil Bharti, Sukhvir Hira, Wasif Mohammed and Nandeep Soggi. ACC spielte mit Shivam Subhash, Imran Asif, Imran Goraya, Amandeep Chhabra, Satyam Subhash and Lakmal Kasturiarachchige. Die ersten Batsmen waren Aman and Lakmal. Imran A. kam rein und stärkte unsere Position. Aman machte 25 Runs. Shivam bowlte das letzte over. Armaan Randhawa

Germany wins the of ICC Pepsi Regional Delelopment award All the best to you and yours for 2010, cricket and otherwise. I am writing to say that you have probably seen that the DCB has won an ICC Pepsi Regional Development Award for Women's and one for Youth cricket and this is to thank you and the ACC for your contributon to those awards, which, though they go in name to Germany, could not have been achieved if you hadn't supported youth tournaments by sending teams to Tegernsee and Munich for a long time now, and, of course, you and Walter going to those places yourselves. Also, you made your supurb ground and facilities and personnel available for the German women's training camp. I used that and one of the great photos you took in my presentation entry for the award. Thanks for that. The linking of countries (Austria, German, Switzerland, Hungary ect.) for youth and women's cricket is a real plus for the growth of cricket in Europe, long may it continue. Best regards, Brian President of (DCB) German Cricket association |
